Filament Cost Guide

Work out what the filament in a print costs.

Calculate filament cost

Work out a print's filament cost

Not sure what to enter? Pick an example above the fields (one PLA print, 20 keychains, a multi-colour print and more) to see how the numbers work, then change them.

  1. Spool price, in CAD. What you paid for the spool, including tax and shipping if you want the true cost.
  2. Spool weight, in kg. Usually 1 kg; some spools are 0.5, 0.75 or 3 kg.
  3. Part weight, in grams. Take it from your slicer after slicing (the print summary shows grams of filament). That number already includes walls, infill and supports, so it's more accurate than the model's solid weight.
  4. Quantity, if you're printing several.
  5. Waste allowance: purges, supports, failed starts. 5% is a fair start for one colour.

The cost per part, the total for your quantity, how many spools you need and the cost per kg update as you type.
