# Inspect an STL

No file to hand? Press one of the **samples** under the drop zone: a calibration cube, an open-top box, a mesh with a hole, a tall thin post or a large panel. Each shows a different part of the report.

1. **Choose an STL file**, or drop it on the box. Binary and ASCII STL both work. The file is read on your device; nothing is uploaded unless you choose to keep it.
2. **Read the report**: triangle count, size in X, Y and Z, volume, surface area and whether the mesh has holes.
3. **Check the weight** in PLA. Change the infill to match what you'll print.
4. **Turn it around in 3D**, or use **Top**, **Front** and **Side** for flat views with the sizes marked.
5. **Pick your printer** to see if it fits, and download a 3MF set up for it (or an STL or GLB).

## Saving a report

Name it and press **Save report** to keep the numbers. Tick **Keep the original file** to store the STL with it in your account (files up to 100 MB).

STL Inspector is part of the Commercial plan, or you can buy it on its own.
